Home charging done properly — load assessed first, cable run planned for the life of the house, compatible with every major charger brand, commissioned to the manufacturer's spec, and finished with the kind of neat detail that makes the install look designed-in rather than added-on.

What a good EV install actually looks like
A Level 2 home charger is a 32-amp continuous-load circuit operating for 6–12 hours overnight, every night, for a decade. It's not a powerpoint. It's not a light fitting. It's the highest-utilization circuit most homes will ever install — and the one with the most downstream consequences if it's done poorly.
Arcwell's EV team runs the job the way a good cabinet maker measures twice: load assessed against your actual panel, cable routed for thermal tolerance and aesthetics, commissioning tested to the manufacturer's spec, and documentation that survives the warranty window.
Which charger for which house
We'll give you an honest recommendation based on your car, panel capacity, charging habits, and whether you have solar. No brand kickbacks — if a $1,400 Zappi is overkill for a single-EV household that parks inside every night, we'll tell you.
The standard setup for a single-EV household. Full 0–100% overnight charge, no panel upgrade required on most 100A boards.
Meaningful faster charge, useful for two-EV households, long-commute drivers, or anyone pairing an EV with significant solar.
Zappi, ChargeHQ, Fronius Wattpilot setups that automatically charge from your excess solar, not the grid. Payback period often under 18 months.
The bit other installers skip
The majority of bad EV install stories start with an electrician who assumed the panel could handle 32A of new load without checking. Then the induction cooktop and the EV run simultaneously on a winter evening, and the main trips with the fridge and WiFi router attached.
Arcwell does a full diversity load calculation against your existing panel before quoting. If your board can't carry the new circuit safely, we say so — and we quote the upgrade separately. You get two numbers, not one surprise bill.
Install process
30-minute visit. We confirm charger brand, cable path, panel readiness, solar integration if any, and leave you with a written quote within 24 hours.
Flat-rate quote that names the exact hardware, the exact circuit, and the exact finish. We schedule the install around your car's arrival date if ordered.
Typical install is 3–5 hours. Cable run, circuit protection, charger mount, commissioning, app setup, and a full charge test before we leave.
We show you the app, the load-balancing settings, the solar integration, and the charge scheduling. Warranty registered in your name against the serial.
Strata & apartment EV installs
EV installs in strata buildings have become one of the most common requests we get — and one of the most common sources of friction between homeowners and body corporates. We know what the typical committee wants: an engineer-signed load assessment, an electrical plan showing cable routing through common property, and a scope of work that can be approved without a full AGM.
Arcwell's strata pack includes all three, formatted the way most Sydney committees prefer it. We've had packs approved inside 14 days in buildings that had previously rejected three different electricians.
EV install reviews
Three other sparkies quoted on the wrong side of the house and missed the panel load entirely. Arcwell ran the calc, found the subpanel route, and the cable run looks like it was designed into the house. Worth every cent.
We'd had solar for years but our previous electrician said we couldn't tie the EV charger into it. Arcwell showed us the Zappi option, installed it beautifully, and we're now charging almost entirely off our own solar.
Our body corporate had rejected every previous installer's proposal. Arcwell submitted a pack that actually answered the committee's concerns — approved inside two weeks and installed two weeks after that. Finally, charging at home.
EV install FAQ
The emergency cable that comes with most EVs charges at about 2.4kW — adding roughly 10–15km of range per hour. Fine if you drive short distances, live with a small battery EV, and always plug in overnight. For most households, a 7kW Level 2 install pays itself off in a few months in convenience alone, and the cable in the boot becomes an emergency backup.
Usually no, but sometimes yes. Modern homes with 100A supply and a recent switchboard almost always have room for a single 32A EV circuit. Older homes (pre-1990s) or homes with existing heavy loads (ducted A/C + induction + pool pump) often need a subpanel or a service upgrade. We'll tell you on the free assessment — before you commit to anything.
Not from a single unit simultaneously, but dual-unit load-sharing setups are a common ask. The two chargers coordinate via their app or controller to stay within your supply limit — one charges fast while the other waits, then they swap. Total install for a two-charger setup runs roughly $1,650–$2,400 depending on cable runs.
Tesla's wall connector uses the Tesla-specific plug (via adapter for non-Tesla EVs). Every other major brand uses Type 2, which works with every EV sold in Australia. If you anticipate changing brands, we'll often recommend a Type 2 charger rather than a Tesla-specific unit — future-proofs the install.
NSW currently has no standing rebate specific to home EV charger installs (some past programs have ended). ARENA-funded trials and utility-specific programs pop up occasionally — we track them and will flag any relevant rebates on the assessment. Some home insurers now discount premiums for Level 2 installs — worth asking your broker.
Practically, up to about 50m before cable sizing becomes expensive. The most common constraint isn't distance — it's cable path. Garages detached from the main house, long underground runs, and routes that cross common property (strata) all add scope. The free assessment exists specifically to map this before you get a quote.
