If you can smell burning, see sparks, or have water near a live circuit — isolate the main switch at your meter box if safe, clear the area, and call us. We'll guide make-safe steps on the phone while dispatching.

Call Now

When it's genuinely urgent

The faults worth calling us out for after hours.

The honest line: if something is actively sparking, burning, or the circuit can't be isolated safely, that's an emergency and you should call. Everything else is usually fine to wait until morning, and we'll tell you so on the phone — no guilt calls.

Burning smell from outlet or switchboard

Isolate the circuit (or main) immediately. Call for make-safe diagnosis before re-energizing anything.

Sparking from fixtures, outlets, or behind walls

Audible arcing is a pre-fire condition. Do not use the circuit. Call regardless of the hour.

Full or partial loss of power, not a street outage

If neighbours still have power and your board won't reset, that's likely an internal fault that won't resolve itself.

Breaker trips immediately when reset

A breaker that fires the moment you flip it is protecting you from something active. Stop re-setting it and call.

Exposed or damaged wiring

Storm damage, renovation accidents, rodent damage, water ingress. Any exposed conductor is a make-safe call-out.

Electric shock from a fixture or appliance

Even a minor tingle from a tap, fridge, oven, or light fitting is a serious earthing fault. Isolate the circuit and call.

Smoke alarms chirping / ringing with no fire

Interconnected systems in fault mode, or base units at end-of-life. Safety-critical — we'll be there same-day.

Storm-damaged meter box or service mast

Don't approach. We'll attend, coordinate with Ausgrid if the network side is affected, and make-safe the same night.

Honest rule of thumb: if you're hesitating about whether it's bad enough to call — it probably is. Our after-hours triage is free on the phone; we'll tell you if it can safely wait until business hours.

How urgent call-outs run

From phone call to power-safe, compressed.

Emergency work runs on the same four steps as every other Arcwell job — just faster, and with safety prioritized over completeness.

01

Live phone triage

You reach a real person inside 60 seconds. We identify the hazard, talk you through make-safe steps, and dispatch the closest on-call Arcwell electrician.

02

On-the-way SMS

You get the technician's name, photo, and ETA within 15 minutes of dispatch. No "between 4 and 8pm" windows.

03

Make-safe first

On arrival, priority is removing the hazard — isolating the fault, capping exposed conductors, restoring safe circuits. Flat-rate priced up-front.

04

Repair plan + quote

If full repair can happen same-visit, we do it. If parts or daylight are needed, you get a written quote and a scheduled return visit before we leave.

What it costs

Transparent emergency pricing.

Emergency pricing is published up-front because nobody should be quoted during a crisis. The call-out fee covers the dispatch, the diagnosis, and the make-safe — then any additional repair work is quoted in writing before billable time starts.

Why response speed matters

Arc faults and earth leaks don't wait until Tuesday.

The gap between "the breaker tripped" and "the wall is smoking" is sometimes days — and sometimes hours. Most residential electrical fires start in concealed wiring that has already been signalling a fault for weeks. A fast, documented make-safe is the cheapest insurance policy in the house.

Arcwell runs a live on-call roster, not a call-centre forwarding service. When the phone rings after hours, the electrician who picks up is the one who's coming to your house. That shaves an average of 35 minutes off the response time most Sydney emergency lines advertise.

Emergency FAQ

What people ask when the lights just went out.

How fast will you actually arrive?

Business-hours metro Sydney: 73-minute average, measured from phone call to on-site. After-hours metro: 90–120 minutes, varying by the dispatch queue and where the on-call electrician is already working.

We'll give you an honest ETA on the phone — if we genuinely can't reach you fast enough and the situation is severe, we'll tell you that too and suggest the right emergency service instead (Ausgrid / Fire & Rescue).

Do you charge more for weekend or night call-outs?

Yes — after-hours emergency call-out runs from $289 versus the $129 daytime service call. The price is quoted on the phone, before we dispatch, and it includes the on-site diagnosis and the make-safe work. Additional repair is quoted separately in writing before it starts.

What's the difference between make-safe and full repair?

Make-safe is everything required to stop the immediate hazard: isolating faulty circuits, capping exposed conductors, restoring safe power to the rest of the house. Full repair is the rebuild — new wiring, new components, replacement fixtures — which often needs daylight, parts, and network coordination.

Most emergency jobs are make-safe on the first visit and full-repair within 1–3 business days, bundled into a single invoice at the end.

Should I turn off the main switch before you arrive?

If there's active sparking, a burning smell, or water near live wiring — yes, if safe to reach. If you're not sure where the main isolator is or it feels unsafe to approach, don't force it; stay clear, call us, and we'll guide the next steps. A phone triage is free and takes 60 seconds.

Do you handle commercial emergencies too?

Yes — retail, hospitality, offices, small warehouses. After-hours coverage is on the same roster, priority to refrigeration, emergency lighting failures, and security-circuit faults. We also run pre-booked maintenance agreements for commercial clients that include discounted after-hours rates.

Don't wait on an active fault
